This has been a LONG project. In my head for almost a year, and I've been actively working on it for about 2 months now. This is a toiletry box. I travel to see my best friend, who lives out of state, about twice a year and I've been tired of how much luggage I have for a 3 day trip. So I made this to elimate a big part of the clutter, my toiletry bag. This baby holds just enough for 3 days of my shampoo, toothpaste, face wash, moisturizer, and various other "necessities."
Anyway, a lot of the parts of this are new for me. It's made of two Altoids tins epoxied together, and secured closed with ribbons with snaps. I've never worked with epoxy before but I like it a lot. One side has a "showa" koi (the orange and black), and contains all the vials. The other side has a "tancho sanke" koi (the white with red spot), and has the tall bottle and various other stuff.
All the blue mottled paper is cardstock that I dyed for this. All the accents (i.e. koi on top; seaweed, flower and silhouette inside; writing on ribbon; stuff on vials) are hand painted. You can't really see it in the pictures, but I painted I <3 Koi on the ribbon closures. Dividers inside are dyed cardstock.
Vials are all themed for what's in them: Sun= Solar Oil (cuticle oil), Olives and leaves= Olive Oil (moisturizer), Sparkly Face= Face Wash, Bubbly Face= Shampoo. The leaves and vines are for peroxide, but what do you do to show that?
Used to make:
Altoids tins x2
Liquitex Heavy Body - Ultramarine Blue (Red Shade) for base color, various for rest
Cardstock - light blue (LOTS)
Various inkpads - blue, purple, green
LOTS of glue (E-6000 and Scotch Quick Dry)
Vials - bought mine from here: [link]
(the tall bottle was a complimentary one at the hotel from last visit ^.^)
